The Lamp harajuku window display for July has been created by Yuko Kanatani. The display’s underlying theme is July’s tanabata festival, and the store will offer products related to the display.
Through the cellophane, the sun is blue
A rainbow of blurred ink
Scraps of organdy sewn together, hang from the heavens
Yellow feathers on the tips make them twirl around
Tying on wishes with candy wrappers
The milky way flutters with the wind
Bamboo leaves brightly shining

Introducing a new artist every month, lamp harajuku WINDOW features Shiho Ukaji this June.
The exhibition title is a rearrangement of “Scrap & Build, Girls!”, a phrase created as a chant to call out to women (as well as men and those who conform to neither gender), to scrap whatever should be destroyed and build themselves up again (leaving whatever should remain untouched). This is what opens the doors to freedom.
Born in Osaka, Ukaji graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts (BA in Fine Arts / fresco painting). She is a modern artist, accessories designer under the brand Fool’s journey, and a musician. Ukaji creates ‘tools for people to express themselves’, with her work ranging from artwork to interior, fashion and accessories. Her pieces are somewhere in between art, fashion and interior genres, as she views paintings ‘to be worn as clothes’ or ‘to be worn on walls’. In 2016, Ukaji produced “concept room No. 666” at the HOTEL ANTEROOM KYOTO in Kyoto.
