Kataoka Meriyasu “Biodiversity” Window Installation at LAMP HARAJUKU

October 31 2017

Stuffed animal artist Kataoka Meriyasu will be showcasing her work for the first time in a year at lamp harajuku. The title “Biodiversity” comes from her vision of creating stuffed animals without any restrictions. The title points out that there really is no theme. It has been awhile since Kataoka has been able to create with freedom, with no theme or collaborations.

Kataoka Meriyasu
Born in Tokyo, the artist began her career as Kataoka Meriyasu in 2011. Her work mainly consists of the creation of stuffed animals, moving toys and light-up toys. The adorable stuffed animals that she makes are not just for looking at, but for playing with as well. Kataoka has written puppet performances and shown them around Japan. She has also been writing a manga ‘Kataoka Ohennro’, since the end of 2014.

UPCOMING EXHIBITION AT HPGRP GALLERY TOKYO

October 30 2017

hpgrp GALLERY TOKYO is pleased to announce Tamami Kubota’s solo exhibition “Asparado”. Her bold strokes combined with the blended colors distinctive to oil-paintings, create a unique and colorful world. On first glance the colors appear to be muted, but show various expressions and movement. This quiet feeling speaks to us of different stories through our own memories and imagination. We hope you won’t miss this special opportunity!

A Message from the Artist
The creator and audience of a visual will interactively communicate through thoughts and information. The creator’s core message can easily be influenced by the words or viewpoint of the audience, and eventually fall into a paradoxical world when the initial position or emotion evolves. The message is influenced, reversed, controlled, inflected in your eyes and eventually implanted in your brain. I hope you enjoy both sides of these contradicting worlds ‘where things can seem to be in every way’.

Artist Profile
Born in 1978
2004 Graduated from Aichi Prefectural University of the Arts (MA in Fine Arts)
1999 “Hitotsubo Exhibition” of Graphic Art – grand prize winner, 2004 “Mainichi Ad Design Competition” award

SAYA KUBOTA
Artist. Born in Ibaraki, Japan (1987).

Kubota’s practice revolves around memory and physical traces of the past, which although they have seemingly altered in form or even to have disappeared, are still sustained in the present time and space. Here, old and new, decay and growth, artifice and organic, human, animal and nature all share the same horizon of scattered parallel existences. She gravitates towards invisible yet certain matters; worn out teeth of a dead deer that once gorged the fruits of the land; the presence of the moon visible only as a reflection of sunlight; letters to someone who cannot be reached; or an evocative mirage of burning incense. Her historical and philosophical enquiries are materialised in diverse works from tracing paper, oil painting, photography, self-devised machines and installation to embellished minerals and porcelains.

October 15 2017

Belgium jewelry duo WOUTERS & HENDRIX’s new collection has arrived to H.P.F, CHRISTOPHER in West Village, New York City. This season’s collection themed “The Collection Curators.” For them, “Collectors have existed since the dawn of human culture. It originates from the days when collecting was a practical matter of hunting for food to survive. Today, we collect for different reasons – intellectual, aesthetic and emotional satisfaction among them. For WOUTERS & HENDRIX, collecting is a labour of love and part of their true being. By bringing the treasures together that they have collected, new stories are made for us to discover. For this collection, WOUTERS & HENDRIX wanted to create a romantic punk feeling by bringing together contrasting elements in a unexpected way.”
