Hello, it's Ionut!
ハロー。ヤヌートです!
Today the New York office was on holiday. Marking a national civil rights hero, today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It was also the inauguration ceremony of President Obama's second term as president. As an American citizen, this is an historic day!

Although I only became an American citizen 10 years ago or soー for me, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a day to fee incredibly indebted to the radical work of Dr. King and all those people involved in the civil rights movement of the 1950-60s.
But also, it is a day to reflect upon all the contradictions corresponding with United States citizenry. It is a day to understand two contradicting realities: an African American has been elected to his second term as president, but African Americans as a minority class are still one of the poorest and one of the most discriminated against in this Union.

The United Statesー and especially New York Cityー is one of the most diverse and multicultural places in the entire world. As citizenry, this is our greatest attribute, our greatest strength. Accepting the multitude of each other's difference is what makes us Americans most.

Happy MLK Day!
