This morning, I received this e-mail from one of my best friend living in Paris. She is a fashion designer for children clothes:
"Hello, my Yann! How have you been? Me, I'm fine! This morning, I went to a fashion trend seminar, organized by "Promostyl", and in their films, where they recommend hot places, etc... there was your very nice boutique!!! WUT BERLIN! I was very proud of you!!!".
About Promostyl:
Promostyl is an international style, design and trends research office based in the world's fashion capital - Paris. They publish "Trend Books", which big fashion companies buy for inspiration and marketing development.
This morning, I received this e-mail from Wibke (ADD designer):
"Yann, i had such a funny dream about you last night!! you had a bob haircut, almost like mireille mathieu cut in boys version!! and you we re explaining a japanese version of domino game that they do with bamboo woven cards, it was very interesting and you looked really different!!
I would like to introduce an artist- BLU to those who may not know his work. Blu is an Italian Artist Specializing in Murals and Urban Design. I saw his work once inside a gallery in Berlin. His work is next level!!! The piece above (picture took in KREUZBERG) is part of "Planet Prozess", a massive urban art event now taking place in Berlin. Also, this new short film by Blu, is really amazing, as each step of the ambiguous animation has been painted on the public walls!!! http://www.blublu.org/
Do you remember Ettina? (See our special Berlin feature and post comment on 03/18). She's the buyer of the very nice select shop in Berlin, KONK. She is going to remake her shop with a new interior and re-open on 05/27. She sent me this message:
"I'm very excited and a bit nervous of course. Tonight i will close the store untill the opening next tuesday. I'm making a mobile with Luis for the new shop. I send you an invite via post, but i m afraid it will only get to you after the opening. I will make some pictures for you. We will miss you all so much!!!"
The new Konk wants to invite you for an evening of drinks and fashion!
Recently, I am very interested in the inside of the Human body. That's why, yesterday, I went to buy the dvd of a movie, which I remember I saw when I was a child...
"Fantastic Voyage" is a 1966 science-fiction movie, directed by Richard Fleischer. The story is about a team of scientists that are miniaturized and injected into a human body in an effort to repair a wound that can't be fixed through the usual means!!!
The beginning of the movie, with the title and actors names, is awesome!!! Sooo modern! Then, the rest of the movie is a little bit too psychedelic and kitsch... But it is still very interesting to travel with those scientists inside of the throat, the heart, the inner hear... And then, finally, they will come out from the body through the corner of the eye, where they escape via a teardrop!!! Great!!! That is what you can see on the poster of the movie!!! The soundtrack is also really great, with heartbeating sounds, etc... Watch the trailer here and run to the video store to see again that very inspiring movie!
This morning, I received this e-mail from Wibke, the designer of the label ADD:
" hi yann, have you ever seen that Graffiti in kreuzberg? it s been there for a while but i just came across this great picture...wish i had seen it before your interview for the special Berlin feature on the H.P. FRANCE website!!!!
best,wibke"
Kreuzberg is one of the best-known areas of Berlin. I am always very impressed by the quality of the graffiti in Berlin. It looks more like Art installation, with high quality of illustration! And those artists always try to reach the top of the buildings!
Jim Lambie
Last Friday night, we have made a special decoration for the Wut berlin corner at WALL at LaForet Harajuku!
My image was about "digital equalizer"! You know, when you listen music on your CD player and that you can see the rythm of the sound...?!
I was also inspired by the work of Jim Lambie, a contemporary visual artist. His trademark theme in his artistic practice is using vinyl tape arranged into patterns around the floor of the gallery space. So, we used the same technique and all the black&white stripes are made with tape!
The designer of "DISSTEADY OWN PHILOSOPHY" is a young and talented Japanese man, who I am collaborating with since three seasons already! The first time we met was in Berlin, where he was presenting his collection.
From May 10th, you can find a limited series of his T-Shirts at Wut berlin - Shibuya PARCO and WALL - LAFORET Harajuku.
Each T-Shirt is a unique piece with original print and color. Moreover, he has first fix together bands of tape on the T-shirts, before printing them. The bands of tape are still on the T-shirt and you have to withdraw them by yourself! By withdrawing the bands of tape, you will create yourself the stripes on your T-shirt!
I really like this type of concept: You not only buy a product, but also You participate in the process of its creation! A very "Arty" way, tendency of this spring-summer 2008!
Last night, I was watching a special "PORTISHEAD" program on MTV channel. Portishead are an English trip-hop band from Bristol. The band didn't release any album since ten years. But they are coming back with "Third", their third album!?
I have been emotionally shocked with their new single "Machine Gun"!!! It is so modern, dramatic and attractive at the same time, almost like an abstractive painting. I like the mix between a graceful melodic air and an electronic artillery fire!?
