アーティスト兼デザイナーのKorakritが作ってくれた手作りのスウェットシャツとTシャツを、たったいま、お店（ラフォーレ原宿のWALL）へ送りました。彼は最近DELLコンピューターのヴィデオにもフィーチャーされたんですよ。彼が渦巻きプリントをどうやって作っているか、見てみてください。

デイヴィッドは近所のオーガニック・ファームの店で働いています。このファームショップは実際の農場やベーカリー、小さな子から高校生までの学生向けのスクール、先生になるための勉強を教える社会人向けのスクール、オルタナティヴな出版社などを含む、大きなコミュニティの一部です。「教育と農業と芸術を通じて社会的・文化的な刷新」を目指すコミュニティセンターなのです。すごくカッコイイです。
最近、彼らは秋のファーム・フェスティバルを行い、私もデイヴィッドの両親と一緒にチェックしにいきました。鍛冶屋さんのデモンストレーションや地元で作られた美しい手作りオブジェのブース、農場ツアー、そしてたくさんの食料品。私たちが一番気に入ったのは、野生動物のリハビリ施設と鷹匠によるトークとデモンストレーションでした。野生動物のリハビリ施設は、彼らのところへ持ち込まれ、完全には傷が癒えずにまだケアが必要な鳥たちを見せてくれました。通常ならばリハビリが完了した動物たちは再び野へ放たれるのですが、時には自力で生きられなくなってしまった動物たちをケアし続ける必要もあります。
鷹匠は、狩の訓練がされた、様々な大きさのフクロウ、タカ、ハヤブサを連れてきており、本物ではなく、作り物のウサギを使って狩をする様子を見せてくれました。ほっ！ 作り物で良かったです。

最近、 私は自分が生物学者になれば良かったと思っています。保全生物学者になれば良かったのに。私は、動物や植物、すべての野生動物が大好きです。この気持ちをもっと多くの人たちと共有したくて、最近、ある本当の生物学者が作ったペンダントを店のために買付けました。Tanja Sovaは、色んな種類の動物の模様を、複雑で美しい焼付けとして木に施し、ペンダントを作っています。裏にはそれぞれの動物の学名が書かれていて、それがまた本当にステキな感じなのです。写真ではうまく表現できていないので、ぜひ、ご自身で店頭に見にいらしてください。
Dave works at an organic farm store near us. The farm store is part of a bigger community that includes the actual farm, a bakery, a school for students from early childhood to high school, a school for adults learning to be teachers, as well as an alternative book publishing house. The community centers around "social and cultural renewal through education, agriculture, and the arts". It's pretty neat. Recently they had a Fall Farm Festival so I went along with Dave's parents to check it out. There were blacksmithing demonstrations, booths with beautiful locally hand made objects, farm tours, and lots of food. Our favorite parts were the talk and demonstration by the wildlife rehabilitator and the falconry demo. The wildlife rehabilitator showed us birds that were brought to him that were injured but were not able to be fully fixed and that now had to be taken care of. Normally he releases all of the wildlife that are able to be rehabilitated fully but sometimes he has to keep taking care of ones that will not be able to live on their own anymore. The falconer had all sizes of owls, hawks, and falcons that were trained to hunt. He showed us how he hunts with them but used a fake rabbit instead of a real one. Phew! I'm glad it was a fake one. I have been thinking lately that it's too bad I didn't become a biologist. I would have liked to have become a conservation Biologist. I love animals and plants and all wildlife. I wanted to share that with more people so I recently bought some pendants made by a real biologist for the store. Tanja Sova makes beautifully intricate wood burned pendants that depict different animal species. She also writes the scientific names of each animal on the back which I think is a really nice touch. My camera is still broken but Shabd was able to give me images she took from her Spring collection. By the time you see this post you will be able to go to WaLL and buy these beautiful hand dyed pieces.
いつもだと、私は週のうち2、3日はNY市内のオフィスにミーティングや仕事をしに行くのですが、先週は、アーティストでデザイナーのShabd Simon-Alexanderが、私がNY市に行く代わりに彼女が私に会いにうちへ来たいと言ってくれました。彼女は秋冬の洋服を持ってきてくれたので、私は彼女が店のために作ってくれた暖かで美しい洋服を見せてもらい、一緒にここから出荷させました。その後で、私たちは農場へりんご摘みに歩いていきました。とても楽しかったです。家に帰ると、Shabdはとてもシンプルなアップルパイの作り方を教えてくれました。
| Normally, I go down to the city to have meetings and work at the office a few days a week but this past week Shabd Simon-Alexander, the artist and designer, said she wanted to come up to our house to meet me instead of me coming down to the city. She came up with her Fall clothes and I took a look at all the warm and beautiful things she made for the store and we shipped them from here. Then we went to a farm down the road and went apple picking. It was so much fun. We came home and Shabd taught me how to bake a very simple apple pie. |
ここ数年の間にHaNNaでお買い物してくださった方の中には、ニットデザイナー、Elyse Allenのブランド"Happy Banana"を覚えている方もいらっしゃるかと思います。さて昨日、彼女の新しいスタジオを訪れる機会があったので、私は何枚か写真を撮ってきました。Elyseと彼女のアシスタントは、すべてのニットを自分たちの編み機を使って手作りしています。2人の腕と肩は1日中編み機の上を行ったり来たりして、さぞかし疲れることでしょう！ Elyseはマンハッタンの彼女の家から、ブルックリンのスタジオまで毎日車で通っているので、飼い犬のUnaをスタジオに連れてゆくことができます。Unaは私に、新しく覚えた芸当「おじぎ」と「お手」を見せてくれました。
既に出来上がっていた作品の中から、私は新しいフィンガーレス・グローブとヘアバンドをピックアップし、帽子もいくつかオーダーを入れました。今回選んだ作品が表参道のHaNNaショップと、ラフォーレ原宿のWALLのHaNNaコーナーに届くのは9月になります。
Some of you who have been shopping at HaNNa for a few years will remember knit wear designer Elyse Allen's line called Happy Banana. Well, I had a chance to visit her new studio yesterday so I took some pictures. Elyse and her assistant knit every piece themselves on one of the knitting machines. Their arms and shoulders must get really tired going back and forth all day long! Elyse drives her car from her home in Manhattan to the studio in Brooklyn so she can bring her dog Una with her everyday. Una showed me her new tricks "Bow" and "Shake".
I picked out some new fingerless gloves and headbands that were already made and put in an order for some hats. They will all arrive at the store and at the HaNNa section at Wall in Laforet in September.
Leif Ritcheyは「Flowers」というブランドのデザイナーの一人です。彼はとっても素敵なユーモアのセンスの持ち主で、今日はなんとジャケットに大きな葉っぱをくっつけて着ていました。

昨晩、デイビッドと私は、友達のWillowとPeteがプレイするライブを見に行きました。彼らのバンドはBowribbonsという名前で、レコードやCDなどは出していませんが、最近とても頻繁にライブをしています。 今のところ彼らが出している唯一の商品はHaNNaでも売っているTシャツなのですが、彼らの音楽はMyspaceで聴くこともできます。Willowの声はとてもソウルフルで情熱的ですよ。

先週から1週間東京にいたのですが、東京へ発つ前に、Bobbiのデザイナー、Barbara SchauweckerがNYのhpgrp GALLERYで小さなファッション・ショウをやるお手伝いをしました。ショウはすべて彼女の友達による手作りでした。モデルはアーティストのFrankie MartinやErika Somogyiなど、全員彼女の知り合い、音楽は友達のMaxとボーイフレンドのTom Hohmannによるライブ演奏、ヘアーメイクもやはり友達によるものでした。
今週Bobbiの洋服を日本に送るので、来週辺りには店頭で直接見ることができるはずです。いつもながら、とてもカラフルで綺麗なコレクションなので、楽しみにしていてください！
Before I left for Tokyo for a week, I helped Bobbi designer, Barbara Schauwecker put together a little fashion show at hpgrp Gallery in New York. The show was put together by all of her friends. Her models were all people she knew including artists Frankie Martin and Erika Somogyi, the music was played live by her friend Max and by her boyfriend Tom Hohmann, and the make up and hair were also done by her friends.
I'm going to be sending the clothes this week so you'll be able to see them in person sometime next week at the store. They are really colroful and beautiful, as always, so please look forward to them!
