私はすごくワクワクしています！ 私たちの新居から半時間のところにドライブ・イン・シアターがあったのです。私がまだ子供のころ、そう、6歳とか7歳の頃だったと思いますが、1950年～60年代のカルチャーにちょっとハマッていました。大部分は『ハッピー・デイズ』『ラバーン＆シャーリー』という2つのTVドラマを通じてで、その当時の私の一番お気に入りの映画は『グリース』でした。自分の車の中から野外の大きなスクリーンで映画を見る・・・、そんなことが本当に可能だなんてまったく考えていませんでした。ドライブ・イン・シアターというものがいまだに存在しているかどうかすらよく分からなかったのです。この、近所のシアターでは2本立ての特集をやっています（1本分の値段で2本の映画が観れるのです）。1人たったの＄7で、なんと火曜日には＄5で観れるのです！ しかも、新作をやっているのです！ 私は自分でポップコーンを作って持っていくつもりです・・・、溶かしフェイク・バターをたっぷりかけたポップコーンを。んー、美味しそう！

I am so excited! There is a drive-in movie theater half an hour from our new house. When I was a little kid, like 6 or 7 years old, I was pretty absorbed in 1950's and 60's culture, mostly through two television shows "Happy-Days" and "Laverne & Shirley" and my favorite movie at the time "Grease". The fact that I will be able to watch a movie in my own car on a big screen outside is something I never really thought would be possible. I didn't really know they still existed. Here, they show a double feature (two movies in a row for one price) for $7 per person and only $5 per person on Tuesdays! And they are showing new films! I am going to pop my own popcorn and bring it.... with lots of melted fake butter. Yum.

NY州の北部に引っ越してきました！ 引越しはとてもとても荒っぽいやり方でした。なにもかも失敗でした。車は壊れるし、私は足首を捻挫するし、デイヴィッドは財布をなくすし、猫のうち1匹は病気になり、亀のうち1匹も病気になり、まだ良くなっていないし、私はインターネット接続用に間違えた機材を買ってしまうし・・・・。
完全な運転免許を取ってから2週間しかたっていないので、私はまだ運転に慣れている最中です。でも、この辺りはほとんど車が走っていないので、良い練習になっています。とはいえ、NY市内から高速道路に乗ってここまで運転してくるのは、もう最悪でした。怖くてたまりませんでした。
まだ荷物の半分はダンボールに入ったままです。私たちは大半の時間を亀のタンクを設置するのに使ってしまって、おかげでそっちはパーフェクトですが、まだ改善しなければならないことが山積みです。デイヴィッドは地下室にドラムセットをセットアップして、練習を始めました。好きなだけ騒音を出すことができて、彼は大喜びです。猫たちもスペースが増えて嬉しそうです。それぞれ別の部屋にいて、お互いに顔をつき合わせていなくても済むため、ケンカが減りました。犬のコールマンもリードなしで散歩するのが大のお気に入りですが、たまには忘れないようにリードをつけて散歩させたほうがいいだろうと昨日私は決めました。家の裏手には小さな泥だらけの池があり、コールマンはそこへ飛び込むのが大好きになりました。私は毎日コールマンを止めなければなりません。でないと、泥を綺麗に洗ってやって、家に上がる前に身体を乾かしてやるまでに長い時間かかるからです。
このブログを打っている間、私の右手の窓から通りを挟んで大きなトウモロコシ畑が見えます。とても静かで、私はこの景色が大好きです。今日は公式には私が仕事に戻る初日だったので、あちこち電話したりメールを書いたりしていますが、陽が落ちないうちに犬の散歩に間に合うように、時計と睨めっこしながら仕事しています。
友達からこの家を借りることができて、非常にラッキーだったと私たちは感じています。本当に幸運でした。
We made it upstate! Moving was really really rough. Everything went wrong. Car broke down, I sprained my ankle, David lost his wallet, one of our cats got sick, one of our turtles got sick and is still not well, I bought the wrong equipment to connect to the internet.....
I am still getting used to driving as I have only had my full license for two weeks but around here, it's not very crowded so it's been a nice transition. Trying to drive OUT of New York City on the high way was horrible though. Very scary.
Half of our belongings are still in boxes. We've spent a lot of time getting the turtle tanks set up and perfect although there is still a lot of things to be improved. Dave set up his drum kit in the basement and has started practicing. He is overjoyed to be able to make as much noise as he wants. The cats are glad to have more room and have generally been fighting less since everyone can be in different rooms and not have to see each other. Coleman my dog has been loving walking around with out a leash, although I decided yesterday that he should still get walked on a leash sometimes so he doesn't forget. We have a small muddy pond in the back that he loves diving into. I have to stop him from doing it every day though because it takes a long time when we get back to clean him off and dry him before he goes in to the house.
As I type this I can look out the window to my right and see a big field of corn across the street. It's very quiet and I love it. Although today is officially my first day back at work, calling people on the phone and writing emails back to people, I am making sure to keep an eye on the clock so that I can squeeze in a walk with the dog before the sun gets too low.
We feel very lucky to be able to rent this house from our friend. Very lucky.

長い間ブログの更新をしていなくて本当にごめんなさい。実は、田舎に引越しをする準備に忙殺されていたのです！ 私たちはNY市から北に2時間のところにある、Germantownという小さな場所へ引っ越します。友人がそこに17エーカー（約2万坪）の土地と3ベッドルームの家を持っていて、それを借りることにしたのです。
私は今までずーっと都会っ子でした。小学校と中学校の間の5年間を東京で過ごした以外は、ずっとNY市で育ち、自分自身を生粋のニューヨーカーだと思ってきました。実のところ、草っぱらに座ることを怖がっていた時代もあったくらいです。こんなに変わってしまうなんて、可笑しいですね。
きれいな空気、静かで広々した空間が、私は楽しみです。早寝早起きの生活が楽しみです。リードをはずして、私の犬に思い切り草原を走らせ、沼でジャンプさせてあげられるのが楽しみです。
次にブログを更新するときには、新しい家と新しい車をお見せしたいと思います！ 私はいつも運転免許を取らなきゃ、と思いながら延ばし延ばしにしてきました。でも、今やっと免許を取りました。
デイヴィッドは友達と別れるのが寂しいと言っていますが、私は友達がうちに遊びに来てくれることを思うとワクワクしますし、それに私が毎週街に行くときに皆に会えるでしょう。仕事があるので毎週マンハッタンのオフィスに通勤しようと思っています。

I am very sorry I haven't written a new blog entry in a long time. I have been busy getting ready to move to the country! We are moving two hours north of New York City to a small place called Germantown. We are going to be renting a friend's three bedroom house on 17acres of land. (That is about 20,000 tsubo)
I have always been a city girl. I grew up in New York City and although I spent five years in Tokyo during part of elementary and junior high school, I always have considered myself a native New Yorker. There were times in my life where I was actually afraid of sitting on grass. Funny how things change.
I'm looking forward to clean air, quiet, and more space. I am looking forward to waking up and going to sleep early. I am looking forward to being able to let my dog off leash to run in the grass and jump in the pond.
In the next post, I will show you my new house and my new car!!! I always meant to get my driver's license and always put it off. Now I have one.
David says he will miss our friends but I am excited that they will come visit and that I will see them when I am back in the city every week. I plan on commuting in to the office every week to do work.
